Mușat & Asociații appoints new Managing Partner and promotes three new Partners. Another eight lawyers are promoted to senior positions

Musat & Asociatii is delighted to announce the consolidation of its core partnership by appointing Paul Buta as Managing Partner and promoting three new Partners (Alexandru Terța, Iuliana Iacob and Andrei Ormenean). All four are exceptional lawyers with a combined professional experience of more than 55 years and a long and impressive career with the firm. Moreover, eight other lawyers have been promoted to senior positions in Criminal Law, Litigation & Arbitration, Corporate and Commercial Law, Labour and Employee Benefits, Competition, Intellectual Property and Life Sciences, as well as Restructuring and Insolvency.

PhD in Law and Lecturer with the “Nicolae Titulescu” Faculty of Law, Paul Buta has over 15 years of impressive legal experience and is unanimously praised for his analysis capacity across practice areas and for his innovative solutions while handling projects and cases entrusted by the firm’s clients. Recognised as one of the most reputed Competition and Intellectual Property law lawyers in Romania and one of the most astute litigators in these areas, Paul successfully assisted local and international clients (mainly foreign investors and multinational companies) on numerous antitrust proceedings and investigations carried out at both national and at EU level, as well as in complex, often international, competition litigations, concerning breaches of competition rules and requests for private damages, cross-border defence of intellectual property rights or unfair competition practices. His ability to coordinate large multi-disciplinary teams to successfully implement complex projects and use innovative instruments to increase value generated for the firm’s clients are the reasons Paul was appointed Managing Partner, alongside Mr. Gheorghe Mușat, the firm’s founder.

Alexandru Terța is a highly-regarded criminal law lawyer, impressive both as criminal law litigator and as advisor, assisting the firm’s clients in preventing and identifying potential criminal risks related to the running of a business. During his over 17 years of professional activity, Alexandru Terta has been involved in some of the most difficult criminal law cases, including white-collar crime, financial fraud, money laundering, corruption, abuse of power and negligence in official positions, or cyber-crime. Alexandru regularly assists and represents clients both during criminal investigation proceedings and throughout all phases of a criminal trial, in front of all courts, starting from the lower courts and up to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, and the Constitutional Court. Alexandru’s promotion to Partner comes as a recognition of his professional contribution to the consolidation of the firm’s Criminal Law department, which is recognised for the bold and creative approach of its criminal law lawyers.

Iuliana Iacob is a litigation lawyer with significant experience in international commercial arbitration and protection of foreign investments, acquired during her 10 years of activity within the firm. During this time, Iuliana represented numerous local companies and multinational corporations in high-stake arbitration disputes, with a combined value in excess of 1 billion Euro (with seats of arbitration in Paris, Geneva, Bonn, London), across a wide variety of sectors, including construction, infrastructure, energy and natural resources, public and private international law, or international commerce. Her promotion is the result of the trust she enjoys from her clients and colleagues alike and contributes to the strengthening of the firm’s Litigation and Arbitration practice, constantly recommended by the international legal guides for its performance, team work and client-oriented approach. Iuliana is also an arbiter on the panel of arbitrators of the Bucharest Court of Arbitration and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb).

Andrei Ormenean has significant experience in the field of corporate and commercial law, assisting national and international clients from various industries in numerous local transactions or with cross-border elements. In his more than 12 years of professional experience, Andrei has been mainly involved in M&A transactions (mergers & acquisitions), group-level reorganizations, as well as the negotiation of commercial contracts, Andrei’s clients including public and private companies, from blue chip multinational corporations to local companies, private equity funds as well as sovereign funds. Andrei constantly advises clients on a full range of issues related to corporate law, including shareholders agreements, shareholding restructuring/protection of minority shareholders/shareholding structures, being constantly appreciated by customers for its creative and efficient approach.

In addition to the partner level promotions, the General Meeting of the Equity Partners of Mușat & Asociații approved the promotion of Pompilia Grigoraș, Valeriu Solcanu, Diana Dobromir and Oana Lupu to the position of Managing Associate, in recognition of their contribution to the firm’s success in recent years.

Pompilia Grigoraș has extensive litigation experience in the firm’s litigation department, assisting and representing numerous clients in administrative litigation and disputes between professionals, being praised for her attention to detail and proactive approach in identifying the optimal strategies for complex cases, such as the annulment of administrative acts issued by public institutions or contractual disputes. Pompilia also represents important companies in fiscal litigation cases against fiscal authorities, as well as public institutions in administrative litigation against decisions of the Court of Accounts.

Valeriu Solcanu has acquired significant experience as a litigating lawyer in some of the firm’s most complex litigation cases, particularly those related to public law. He assisted and represented various authorities and public institutions in administrative and fiscal litigation, as well as large corporations on complex public procurement awards procedures for important public procurement contracts in the transportation sector, as well as in other sectors of the economy. Clients praise Valeriu for his professional attitude, the determination with which he handles cases and for the solutions he puts forward, all qualities underlying his promotion to Manging Associate.

Diana Dobromir is a highly experienced lawyer and insolvency practitioner, assisting both debtors and creditors on a wide range of restructuring and insolvency matters. Diana’s role involves investigation and management of companies in insolvency, reorganisation or bankruptcy, supporting clients in a broad range of industry sectors, including highly regulated ones such as pharmaceuticals, real estate, energy, transportation, and constructions. The impeccable handling of cases, the in-depth knowledge of insolvency law, the professionalism and quality of the solutions she provided were all particularly appreciated by clients and colleagues alike.

Oana Lupu is recognised as one of the most experienced labour law lawyers, assisting mainly multinational corporations in various industries, such as IT&C, pharmaceuticals, energy and natural resources, and the banking sector. Oana handled sensitive matters such as harassment and discrimination investigations or collective dismissals cases, while also being involved in complex cases requiring an integrated approach, such as business transfers, mergers & acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures and outsourcing, advising mainly on labour law related matters arising from such projects.
